Items for thought and ya'll can add dates and times as needed, or discard ideas at will:
Photo trip/ sight seeing in the national park = 1 full day.
"" """ Pinto canyon road shafter presidio river road ect = 1 full day
ft davis, marfa, star party = 1 full day
hang out at zach and tricia's for cookout and fire = 1 evening, possibly = 1/2 morining for recovery?
"Discover" Alpine ( drive around, possibly walk up the hill behind the school?) = 1/2 day
Drive the RR tracks and possibly put the vehicle in 4wd = 1-2 hrs
Wash and wax Zach's fleet of vehicles = 1/2 day
I am sure I can think of some more activities, but it is up to ya'll what you want to do, I am just along for the ride and a little local flair. I am taking the days ya'll are here off so I am open to whatever, even if that just means hanging out and laughing at each other, that would be perfectly allright with me!!
Grandpa can't stop talking about the trip. I like your points of interest. I just need to get Danny, Jamie, Barbara and Steve on the blog. This is going to be great.
I was thinking that Monday we start by going to Marfa, following the back road to the Observatory and check out availability for the evening star gazing, buy passes if we can, go into Ft Davis to explore and have dinner, go back that evening and star gaze. After that, we drive back to the hotel, exhausted. Zack posted on the blog some things we may want to do. David
I don't think the star party "Fills" up there is a bunch of room, so getting passes early won't be necessary. BUT,, they sometimes do daytime solar viewing which may be pretty cool?
Who's tarded? I've never done this before...I am just so looking forward to getting away for a while I am too burned out to plan anything. Just want to look through the big telescopes at the stars and catch some winks. Will bring many warm items and cozy stuffs. Hard to imagine as it was about 90 here today.
There will be more to do than time. Unwinding's important, we won't be on the go all the time. Observatory Ft. Davis area, Marfia and Big Bend. Driving around Alpine and visiting. That's heaven for me.
I am down for just hangin around too, It'll be so great to be home for a week. a good end to this crazy winter! currently 22* snowing and 30mph winds. I busted my aWoopwoop getting in my truck, and I am sick of the winter.
FYI - For any who are planning their route through Monahans, there is a detour due to construction on the Pecos Bridge across HWY 1776...so, you'll have to re-route through Grandfalls/Ft. Stockton. It won't cost you a lot of time, though, so don't feel like it's necessary to completely avoid it. If you need more info, just let me know and Zach or myself can help you with the alternative directions. The below links give detour routes and more info, compliments of TX DOT.
Thanks for the comments and info about the detour...I really wanted to go through Monahans to see the dunes on the way home. Does the detour make you paddle across the Pecos?
You will still be able to go through Monahans, the detour won't effect that. And, normally, all that's needed to cross the Pecos is, maybe, a good pair of high waters ;)
Food thought: For the cookout at our house, would anyone be interested in burgers with buffalo "wing" sauce, bacon, and blue cheese or at least the option for any combo of those ingredients (plain burgers would also be avail.)? Or does that make your head want to explode just thinking of the calories. Cause...we could also do fajitas or kabobs or something less...sort of... heart attackesque. Anything is fine with us. Maybe you just want steaks? Any requests? Are there any non-carnivore types in the group??
This is from the depths of my heart...any of the above would be great. The only thing is that it has to be easy on you. Whatever you all want to do is the best solution. It use to be Bobby Burgers, I guess now it could be Zatch/Flipp'n Excited Burgers.
I am sure we could get BOBBY to flip one or to just for ol' time's sake? I am sure I could use some pointers! Oh this is Zatch by tha wayside. I think hanging out will be the beest no matter what we are doing.
Uh...... I thought I was on tricia's account, cause I am finally HOME!!! WOOOHOOOO!! Took another 2 days but I am here and ready for the festivities! (spelling and gramer check please doc)
I finally figured out how this thing works , I think. Dad and I are leaving @ 5:00 am Sunday morning. Hpefully , with some of my famous short cuts , ,we'll make good time . We'll meet Dave and Scotty in Colo city. I like Zachary's idea about sitting around laughing at each other. If you laugh at somebody falling down or walking into something , and of course not getting hurt , you're a Border. If you laugh at thing from the past , you're a Border. I still laugh about the time in San Marcus hat right after Steve Chidded Dave for spilling his drink , the same thing happened yo him.....Of course we won't talk about my falling in front of Chibi's Zach. fzfzfzfzfzf....I'm going to let somebody else drive through the check points. I can't wait to actually going to the Big Bend , Marfa , and throwing rocks of the river road. Nancy and I are thinking about buying a condo in Lajitas . I'm up for anything cooked out , especially Beef. The main thing is we'll be in Alpine. Maybe Dad and I will sit out the Star party this time since we both went to one last time. Weel I'm signing off. I hope I speled everthing rifht our at least got close.
Danny, thanks for getting dad safely to Alpine and back. When we all meet in Colo city I can take over driving and give you a rest. I think your idea of going I-20 will be the best way. It should be the quickest since it will be a 10 hour drive.

ReplyDeleteRemember walking around downtown Alpine after dinner one night? Things like that are just cool
Pizza Foundation comes highly recommended by Z and T as a must eat! It's so good, you'll dream of it after you've gone home!
ReplyDeleteI think Ernst Tinaja via old ore road would be cool, good pics and offroading a little>
ReplyDeleteAnd I think the restaurant is Alicia's not Rosa's, Unless ya'll found some place new I don't know about??
